Happy Birthday Tank & Skinny's

The first coffee shop in Muff was a pop-up for ‘one day only’ at McColgans Butchers. Myself Gráinne McCool, and Teresa Cregan, had talked often about the need for a coffee shop in the village. Local butcher Thomas suggested we come into his shop one day and he’d show us a coffee shop – and he did.

True to his word, on January 29^th 2014, over two years before Edward and Shane had the idea (just saying lads), Thomas brought some fresh scone, butter and jam, and made myself and Teresa coffee, (wee drop of whiskey too) in his butcher shop. He had the chairs for us also.

That day, Teresa, myself, Thomas and Connor talked about the need for a coffee shop in the village. We knew back then that it was just what Muff needed. So, we were the first crew to get excited when the news broke that two brothers from the Buncrana area were opening a coffee shop in Muff. Many folk said it would never work. Ah ha, but we knew better.

When Tank & Skinny’s opened those doors on Friday 31^st July 2016, I remember thinking that the heart of Muff had just started beating. And I’m still saying that. This coffee shop has brought our village alive. It has allowed people to come along and meet, eat and greet, entertain, and just relax, on a daily basis. Our village would never be the same without this fabulous place.

But never forget that the seed was sown long before, on a late January day in McColgan’s Butcher shop in 2014. The mug was very welcomed that day. And if I remember right, Teresa and I put the world to right. And Thomas and Connor just had to agree.

Tank & Skinny’s ye are an absolute delight to have in our village heart, and we all want to thank ye for coming to Muff. Here’s wishing you the happiest of birthdays and we look forward to the next 10 years and more here in Muff.

Mura gets ready for retirement!

In just over one weeks’ time, our village will have another retiree. A retiree who has given so much to Muff. He moved to Muff from neighbouring Fahan in 1989. Although working in the village prior to this, Mura McLaughlin has long since established himself as a permanent fixture, community member and one of the hardest working members of Muff village. Mura was a Customs Man from 1981 through to 1992. He then proceeded on a career with Irish Life. In the early 90’s Mura began volunteering in the village and was always there to lend a hand at the preparation and delivery of festivals and more. And of course you could find him on the dramatic stage too. In 2007 Mura began working with what is now Muff Community Development. And in 2011 he became manager there. Mura has a team of committee members behind him and a team of workers alongside him, but he himself has been instrumental in much of the development that has taken place in our community in the past 25 years. Point Coffee opens this coming Tuesday in QP

Earlier today the new coffee shop in Quigley’s Point welcomed some family and friends for a taster and viewing of the new premises. It was a delight to be part of that taster and welcome. Although very much settled in Muff, I am and will always be a Quigley's Point gal at heart, so this coffee shop is a special one for myself here at Craic On Muff. Point Coffee is due to open its doors to the public on Tuesday 21 st July at 7am. It will allow the village of Quigley’s Point and those passing by to fuel up on coffee at dawn, and be fully awake come the morning rush hour of work, family, and day-to-day life. Being the first coffee shop in Quigley’s Point there is undoubtedly much excitement about this opening. Local business, neighbours and friends all popped in today for a nosey. And no one was disappointed. You will find a lovely seating area within. As all is new it’s got that lovely newness feel to it, and yet the smell of coffee makes it feel homely. You will find...

Christmas Dance at Muff Community Hall with Shunie Crampsey

There really is something magical watching people dancing. From contemporary songs to the very traditional 'Shoe the Donkey', it was all things dancing this Sunday night. The people of Muff and far beyond showcased true magic on the dancefloor tonight at St. Mary's Hall here in the village. Shunie Crampsey has been providing the music and song here in the community hall monthly for the past 18+ months. Tonight was the Christmas dance and it showcased the importance of music and dance for the soul. People coming together to sit and listen, to get up and dance, to just talk. And a fabulous supper was enjoyed by all, catered by The Cabin. Events like this show what community is all about. And the community within the village hall tonight felt very strong and very festive. People came from all over Inishowen and Derry to enjoy the dance. And no doubt will return in the future to do likewise.
